Sohail's Gmail Notifier for Google Apps is an alternative to Gmail Notifier released by Google. This notifier works with gmail.com & any domain hosted by Google Apps. Now it supports proxy server & mailto links. Notifier reads the XML from Gmail atom and shows it you. Please note that currently Google only posts 20 unread messages in the atom.
